Description

Today, September 7th (it may be already September 8th according to your time zone) is Brazilian Independence Day. One of main attractions is the parade of the 1st Regiment of Cavalry Guards, denominated as Dragons of Independence in tribute to the dragoons that followed D. Pedro I during the independence of Brazil. Many unities of Brazilian army have "historical standards", but not the Dragões da Independência. For them, I decided for a much simpler style.

We have dragons and D. Pedro, what does it remembers me? The Imperial Order of Dom Pedro I, that had, among other elements, a wyvern sinister or langued gules with wings spread and, in its chest, a green escutcheon with the emperor's personal monogram. The green color and the wyvern are two symbols of the House of Braganza.

I made it more similar to HRE heraldry, and less like its true inspiration, the Napoleonic Order of the Iron Crown. The yellow lozenge on green background was, before its adoption as national flag, used in D. Pedro I's personal standard.
