Two generations of Lindsay

Description

Here are arms of two generations of members of clan Lindsay living in Australia, gladly designed by me: a father and his eldest son. Both arms echoes clan's: Gules, a fess checky azure and argent.

Father's arms echo his life as farmer and soldier (during WW2). The shovel represents his occupation as farmer, his lifelong "Digger" nickname and the trenches of war; the last is also represented by the handgranades. The rat refers to the name of his unity: "Rats of Tobruk". The motto's meaning is evident.

The son's coat of arms has a sheet bend, a worldwide symbol of vexillology (study of flags) and a stag beetle (that occurs in Queensland, where he lives), representing his degree in Enthemology (study of insects). His crest has a sleeping talbot, representing the struggle against depression, on a cushion echoing the shield (everybody needs a soft place to rest...) and a golden guitar, for his enthusiasm for Australian folk song. His motto, "from the smallest, the biggest", is another reference to insects.

Rat, talbot, cushion and beetle by me. Others elements come from Wikimedia Commons.
